The owners of Home Front Bus have more than 20 years experience of operating specialist converted buses.  They have been involved with operating the AEC Regent Bus on behalf of its previous owners since the early 1990’s and acquired it in August 2010.  The bus has since undergone a major refurbishment to equip it for a busy life visiting schools and events and is now available for hire. GJG757D is an AEC Regent V delivered new to East Kent Road Car Co in March 1966.  It has a 9.6 litre six cylinder AEC engine, synchromesh 4 speed gearbox, air brakes, but no power steering.  Its bodywork was built by Park Royal.

It spent most of its time with East Kent based at Folkestone and ended its days as a driver training bus.  After withdrawal GJG757D was purchased by St James’ Church, Banbury before moving to Mac Roydon, Essex in July 1984 and Oak Hall Expeditions, Sevenoaks in July 1988.  In 1993 GJG757D was donated to a Christian group known as INROADS with whom it famously travelled from John O’Groats to Lands End in support of charity walkers raising money on behalf of Mission Aviation Fellowship.  This trip was undertaken by the present owner.

In 1997, the bus passed to Associated Bus Ministries who employed it on a Church of England project celebrating the Millennium.  It visited schools in London to help pupils consider the true significance of the Millennium.  It was refitted inside and had posters on the outside asking the important question ‘2000 years since what?’

At the conclusion of this project the bus moved to Bath where it was converted into a mobile museum depicting life in the 1940’s.  In 2008 GJG757D returned to Kent and currently resides at Dover Transport Museum.  In the summer of 2010 it passed from the care of Associated Bus Ministries to Home Front Bus and following a substantial overhaul is available for hire by schools and event organisers.  substantial overhaul is available for hire by schools and event organisers.
